I had a phone call from my doctor saying my white blood count was too low. I have to stop my MTX injection for two weeks and stop Plaquinel. I know this has happened to some of you . I hope my pain does'nt come back. Doc said they might reduce my dose so i will have to wait and see. I have been well for a good while now. I will take badly with it if the stiffness and pain come back. I know some of you are having a bad time so i will try not to moan.

Hi Kathleen,

Sorry to hear you have a problem with your white cell count, stopping your MTX for a couple of weeks should not be a problem as it stays in your system for at least 6 weeks. Hope you pick up again soon. How long have you been on MTX, I am on it too along with Plaquenil, I take 6 MTX weekly and 1 Plaquenil 200mg daily. I remember years ago I paniced when told to stop my drugs due to a rash, but when all said and done it settled and caused me no problems. Hope it's the same for you, take care. Lorna Smile

Hello

Sorry your cells not as they should be. I personally not been in that situation
but I am sure you will get a few replies. In previous posts I have noticed that
stopping for a couple weeks does not appear to bring on the aches and pains.
So good luck

Hi Kathleen
I take mtx and hydroxy.
This has happened to me. I seem very sensitive to mtx. The first time I tried to move from 7.5 to 10 my white count dropped and I was told to go back to 7.5. When we tried again a bit later I once again got a call that the white count was too low. I was told this time to miss a week but then to stay at 10. It seems to have worked this time and I am staying (just) within the normal range. I didn't have any problems with dropping it for one week. Now when I stopped my hydroxy for just 3 days I had a lot of pain in one wrist - whether there was any connection, I don't know but I went back on the hydrox pretty sharpish.
It is all such a fine balance, isn't it.
Good luck

Hi Kathleen

Looking at other people's replies, you may not get any worsening of the symptoms with a reduction in the MXT.

I take 25mg weekly (tablets) combined with Leflunomide daily. Each week, I get quite a bit of pain coming back on the couple of days before my MXT dosage is due. Therefore, when I was three days late taking it once because I felt really ill and was awaiting a blood test result, it took about a month to get back on track.

Hopefully, you'll be like everyone else and not me - it sounds like I am an exception (or just plain weird!).

Good luck!

Kathryn

I am back on my MTX injection. Just in time as i can feel the pain coming back. Doctor says my white blood count is ok again. I have to get my bloods done in two weeks time instead of monthly. I will just have to see how things go.
